About the Owner
Hello my name is Dustin Roe, son of Dean and Katie Roe, Owners and Operators of long time successful outfitting company, Canadian Mountain View Paradise - "MVP Outfitters”
I currently am an outfitter myself and professional guide specializing in high-end mountain hunts including Sheep, Grizzly and Goat.
I was born and have grown up the East Kootenay Region of BC. Our region is home to 10 huntable species of big game animals including; Bighorn Sheep, Elk, Moose, Grizzly Bear, Black Bear, Whitetail Deer, Mule Deer, Cougar, Mountain Goat and Wolf. With having all this access to hunting big game so close to home it quickly fueled my passion for the outdoors and by a young age I knew I wanted to work in the Guide Outfitting industry.
In the province of BC, law requires you to be 19 years of age to hold an Assistant Guides License, under special circumstances a person may apply for a permit from the BC government to guide under the regular age limit of 19. I was granted this permit at 18 and my guiding career started in 2002 where I worked in the family business hunting for Elk, Black bear, and both Mule and Whitetail Deer.
In 2005 I ventured north to expand my knowledge of the industry and guided for outfitter, Bryan Martin (Canadian Mountain Outfitters). That year I guided both Horseback and Backpack hunts with a 100% success rate for Stone Sheep, Mountain Goat, Grizzly, Caribou and Canadian Moose.
In 2006 I wrote my Guide Outfitters License and was accepted as the youngest member of the Guide Outfitters Association of BC (GOABC). That year our family decided to expand our areas to Northern B.C. by leasing another outfit , thus giving our operation more variety to hunt including Stone Sheep and Free Range Bison.
In 2009 I was Married and brought my partner for life Heather in. With Heather specializing in Customer Service and Bookkeeping we formed a new operation, Backcountry BC and Beyond Ltd. A freelance guide service allowing me to lengthen my season and guide year-round between Canada other countries like Mexico and New Zealand. Backcountry BCs business model is innovative and different than other conventional outfits but is a win-win-win to both the Outfitters we work with, myself, but most importantly our clients. It has very quickly become a huge success and grown at a very fast rate. ( in a market that is shrinking)
To date, at 27, I have successfully guided in the NWT (North West Territories) for Dall Sheep, the Yukon for Stone Sheep, BC for 14 different species, Mexico for Desert Sheep, New Zealand for Tahr, Chamois, Stag, and Alaska for Brown Bear.
Since 2002, I have guided well over one hundred successful hunts, including more than 35 with bow and arrow, and 57 Successful Sheep Hunts. I have guided or personally taken many trophy class animals, with 15 Boone & Crockett animals, including two 185 inch Rocky Mountain Bighorns, a 52 inch Mountain Goat, 3 Grizzly Bear one of which a 24 5/8 with a bow, a 183 Whitetail, 2 Desert Sheep, 2 Stone Sheep, 3 Canadian Moose and a 420 inch Mountain Caribou. I have also guided 40 inch Dall Sheep, 40 inch Stones, 40 inch Bighorn and over 30 Pope and Young qualifying animals including many Sheep with Archery equipment highlighted by :
- 2009 Gold Archery Stone Ram award taken by Tom Hoffman.
- 2010 Diamond Archery Stone taken by Keith Redding.
- 2010 a 177 Desert Sheep in Mexico taken by Murray Fain of BC, this sheep won the Hoffman-Frost Award for most outstanding Archery Trophy at Grand Slam Club/OVIS.
-2011 Gold Archery Stone Ram award taken by Blake Patton.
-2011, I was hired to guide the coveted BC Premiers Sheep Tag in which I successfully guided the New World Record Archery Stone taken by Jim Hens. This Ram will for sure win the 2012 Top Archery Ram award and the prestigious Hoffman-Frost award for most outstanding Archery Trophy and the international sheep hunting Convention Grand Slam Club/OVIS . I am young, professional, hard working, enthusiastic and passionate about hunting, outfitting and preserving our hunting rights and freedoms. I am always trying to improve my business and will strive to be one of the leaders in the next generation of the outfitting industry moving forward. I will pride myself on hunting ethics, conservation and providing a top quality hunting and outdoor adventure for many years to come.
